These 12 Pā are the gathering places of our 9 Hapū, respectively Ngā Maihi / Ngai Te Kahu, Te Whakatāne, Ngai Tama, Tamakaimoana, Ngai Tamatuhirae, Ngai Tātua / Tamakaimoana, Ngāti Rere, Ngāti Raka, Ngai Tūranga, Te Whakatāne and Tamaruarangi.
